Flyers Trying To Acquire Goalie Without Giving Up Star

Jul 30, 2014 12:40 PM

The Flyers are in need of a big-time goalie and general manager Paul Holmgren is trying to devise a plan to acquire one without giving up an offensive star. "I have certain plans and I'm certainly not going to discuss them," Holmgren said. "It's an important summer for us," Holmgren continued. "I believe we have a good team and we want to stay a good team. I believe we're one of the top teams in the league. I think it's important now to just try to maintain and add in certain areas. So we're looking at a lot of different things to try to make ourselves better." Jeff Carter, a 40-plus goal scorer, has been mentioned in some trade rumors involving Philadelphia taking back a much-needed goalie.

Source: Bryzgalov Would Love To Be A Flyer

Aug 2, 2014 1:00 AM

Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov might be a perfect fit for the Flyers, according to a league source. The source, who is familiar with the Russian, says Bryzgalov would relish becoming a Flyer. "He would love the adulation he'd get in Philadelphia," the source said. "This is a big guy, who plays back in the net and can play a lot of games for the Flyers. Phoenix and the Flyers have had some talks this season about trades, including Jeff Carter. "Phoenix needs some significant help up the middle with Kyle Turris. They've talked to Philadelphia about trading for Carter to achieve that. Maybe they do that. Philadelphia has to move salary. You need to clear about $5.5 million to bring Bryzgalov to Philly, if he's their guy."

It May Make Sense For Caps To Discuss Dealing Green

Sep 24, 2014 4:53 PM

It would make sense for the Capitals to discuss trading defenseman Mike Green this offseason, writes Jonathan Newton of The Washington Post. "He gets an 'incomplete' on his 2010-11 report card after missing all but 49 regular season games with a pair of concussions and Game 4 of the Tampa Bay series with a leg injury," Newton writes. Green has one more season remaining on his contract at $5.25 million and the expected return of Dennis Wideman from a leg hematoma could make him expendable.

Could Flyers Deal Jeff Carter?

Oct 16, 2014 9:24 PM

If the Flyers are interested, they might be able to trade center Jeff Carter. The Philadelphia Inquirer writes that "Carter has always been durable in the regular season throughout his career, but has faded in both production and in the lineup with injuries in the playoffs. If the Flyers were interested in moving the pure goal scorer, no fewer than 20 teams would be interested." Carter, who has 11 years remaining on his contract, will make $6 million in 2011-12.
